EcoFaith Recovery: Be 2 Weeks Ready Training Events
January 11 and 25; February 28 – Register here and indicate which session you will attend
EcoFaith Recovery is hosting community-based training sessions on Oregon’s Be 2 Weeks Ready program, created by the Oregon Department of Emergency Management. In these sessions, EcoFaith will help households, congregations, and neighborhoods begin preparing together so that when a crisis comes, we are not alone.
We live with real risks in Oregon and elsewhere: earthquakes, wildfire smoke, heat domes, ice storms, flooding, and extended power outages. When those things happen, people turn first to faith communities and neighbors for care, connection, and practical support. When faith communities get equipped and then help their members connect with neighbors, we grow resilience rooted in relationships and the kind of organizing for the common good that our world needs for so many other challenges.
These training sessions are one simple, specific way to start building those networks of mutual aid.

Why This Matters
Being prepared for two weeks is not about stockpiling in fear. It’s about:
- Keeping your household safer when systems are strained
- Freeing up first responders and emergency services to focus on those in greatest need
- Allowing congregations to function as trusted hubs of care in their communities
- Building relationships that make shared action possible on many issues, not just emergencies
The work of getting prepared together builds the same kind of relational fabric we need for climate, social and racial justice so we can organize for a better world. When we practice showing up for each other in times of crisis, we are also practicing how we can organize with each other in response to the many other crises our communities face.

What Is “Be 2 Weeks Ready”?
Be 2 Weeks Ready is a statewide emergency preparedness program developed by the Oregon Department of Emergency Management. It’s designed to help individuals, households, and communities be able to take care of themselves for about two weeks after a major event—when services may be disrupted, roads blocked, stores closed, or power out.
The Be 2 Weeks Ready approach focuses on:
- Simple, achievable steps toward household preparedness
- Thinking through real-life scenarios (food, water, medications, communication, shelter, hygiene, power)
- Gateway to encouraging people to prepare in community, not in isolation
Although this program is rooted in Oregon’s context, its core principles can support preparedness anywhere. EcoFaith Recovery’s training sessions will help you start from where you are and move toward greater resilience with others.

What You’ll Gain from This Training
In about 90 minutes, including presentation and Q&A, you will:
- Get a clear overview of the Be 2 Weeks Ready framework
- Begin outlining a basic 2-weeks-ready plan for your own household
- Learn realistic, doable steps you can take over time—without getting overwhelmed
- Explore how to introduce this work in your faith community (or neighborhood)
- See how Be 2 Weeks Ready can become a tool for building relationships that support future neighborhood or community organizing
- Identify first steps you can take with others who come from your congregation or neighborhood, to make your household and community more resilient.
Neighborhood-wide organizing will unfold after the training as people follow up and deepen relationships. However, if you bring a small team from your congregation or neighborhood, you can begin taking early steps to organize together even during the training itself.
Trainings are free; donations to EcoFaith Recovery are welcome but not required.
People of all faith traditions—and those of no tradition—are welcome.
